What's in a Name? ~ Emma Marie ~

I posted this almost 6 years ago when our second son was born... What's in a namereflecting on the meaning of names and sharing the meaning of our second son's name.

The newest addition to our family (baby girl) arrived about 2 weeks ago! We gave her the name Emma Marie. Here's a little about why...

Emma. As many of you know we have 4 boys! With each pregnancy we considered what we would name them if they had been girls... we always loved the name Emma. It has been our favourite since the birth of our 1st son.

The name Emma has a German origin and means, "whole, "complete" or "universal". (Old German = 'ermin' or 'irmin'). We didn't even know our family was missing anything, but God in his kindness has brought us a baby girl, Emma, and in many ways she makes us complete. I was quite satisfied being a boy mama to our 4 boys, but when we found out we were expecting a girl, the Lord showed me places of my heart... desires i didn't even know that I had that He was fulfilling. He has been so good to us!

We also like the name Emma because it feels classic, like the leader character in Jane Austen's novel. It's one of the most popular names in North America, and it works in Poland (because it ends with an "a") but it is actually quite 'unique' and 'rare' here in the land of kiełbasa, in which we live!

We now have 4 boys + 1 girl in our family! God has done beyond all that I would have hoped or imagined in giving me a family. At 30, I was a single missionary living in a foreign land and wondered if i would ever be married or have kids. There were days i hoped. And there were days i lost hope and cried, "I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!" (Mark 9:24) I knew that nothing was too difficult for God... God brought an amazing man into my life, Benjamin. A little over 8 years ago we were married, and in the past 8 years the Lord has given us 5 beautiful kids!

Marie. Our little girl has my middle name! It is also my mom's middle name, and so it seemed fitting that our little girl would carry it on as well. Mary was the mother of Jesus in the Bible, and some sources cite the meaning of Marie as "wished-for child". As I shared above, i think Emma was the baby girl my heart desired without even knowing it until we were pregnant!

Welcome to the world, Emma Marie! We are so thankful you are a part of our family and the gift that you are from God. We are excited to see who you grow to be, and how you bring beauty, life and pink unicorns into our family!
