Even before we had kids I bought this Bible for our kids, knowing one day i would have the greatest privilege of reading "God's Story" to them. One of my best friends recommended it to me and made me aware of that not all Bible's for children teach them the true story of God's grace (but rather moralistic virtue, which isn't the main point at all!). She also recommended the Big Picture Story Book Bible, which is better for the stage Lucas is at right now (1yr). I would strongly recommend both of them! And can't wait until he will sit with me and read the Jesus Storybook Bible!
Sally Lloyd Jones recently wrote an article on the Gospel Coalition blog which i absolutely love about "teaching your children that the Bible is NOT about them!" How often do we as adults even forget this, or mix up this basic truth? "When we drill a Bible story down into a moral lesson, we make it all about us. But the Bible isn't mainly about us, and what we are supposed to be doing---it's about God, and what he has done!" Maybe it's because where we live, in a culture full of religion, yet at times feels devoid of God... this really resonates with me, "I wrote The Jesus Storybook Bible so children could meet the Hero in its pages. And become part of His Magnificent Story. Because rules don't change you. But a Story---God's Story---can."
I follow Sally on twitter @JSBBible and love the simple truths, which literally bring tears to my eyes (maybe it's the pregnancy hormones!)
