On Motherhood :: Investing Your Time

Have you ever realized how valuable your time is? There are many things in life that will compete for your time throughout your life... your hobbies, your work, your friends, your children... Based on a culture that often places our identity on what we do, many mom's these days often feel the pressure of returning to work. I love this quote i came across by C.S. Lewis...

The Bible talks about investing our lives in things that are eternal. The souls of our children are exactly that. It's so easy to get distracted by more temporal things, like making dinner or sending an email... but this morning i went on a walk with my youngest. Just me & him... exploring nature and walking together.

And for the moment he had my full attention and we explored the world together.

I watched how he fearlessly takes on obstacles, and how he is amazed at a water sprinkler out on the soccer field.

I got smiles like this and gifts of grass and flowers.

I watched him curious at the berry bushes, and the bees, the birds and the butterflies that came fluttering by...

And i cherished this time with him because i know that before i realize it the seasons will be changing. He will start preschool a year from now and i won't have him all day - every day to make messes, and throw balls, and dig in the dirt and go on walks with.

"Children are a gift from the LORD; a productive womb, the LORD's reward." Psalm 127:3
I believe that there is not a thing more valuable in the sight of God, than investing in these little ones He has given us. Be encouraged moms, the little years are for a seasons, our children's souls are for eternity.
