The Patient Potter

The other night a memory came to mind... when i was in Greece this past summer we had the opportunity to visit Ancient Corinth. There was a really great museum there and attached to the museum was a courtyard... the courtyard was filled with headless statues (for some reason the heads weren't stable and so most of them have fallen off:) But in the corner of the courtyard was this intriguing little room... where one little old man sat with millions of pieces of broken pots...

As i stood there and watched him work, i was amazed. He was actually putting them back together. He would search for a while, then put them in piles with pieces i guess he though were from the same pot. He then began to actually glue the pieces back together!...

I remember thinking, "that is going to take him FOREVER!" Somehow in our fast-paced culture when something breaks we just throw it out, or buy a new one. How rarely i take time to put something back together....

In the past few days though i have begun seen more of who God is through the patience of that man with the broken pots. The bible compares us, who carry the gospel, to jars of clay... and lately i have felt like i am in a million pieces. But there is peace in that in knowing that God is committed to patiently gluing those pieces of my life back together if i allow him to.... just like that old man in the midst of the room with millions of broken pieces.
